Me in a photo and on paper.
I made my first commercial when I was eight.
A friend of my Mom’s, a talent scout for a local ad, landed me an acting job.
We were selling: booster seats.
The director said, “Look anywhere… except right HERE,”
Pointing to the big camera lens strapped into the center console pointed at me.
As we drove around and around the same parking lot, over and over.
My co-star, another eight year old boy, was totally rocking it.
Gazing out the window, acting as if we were passing by beautiful scenery.
Reaching into the front pocket to demonstrate the plush seatbelt guard.
Sipping his juice and slipping it into the convenient cup holders so naturally.
I just couldn’t stop giggling. And I bet you can guess exactly where I was looking.
Yup, right down the barrel. The whole time.
Shy of a few awkward, giggly clips, I barely made it into the final cut.
I still make commercials. I’m just better behind the camera :-)
